January 2013 Minutes

Mannford PTO Minutes
6:30 pm January 24, 2013
Upper Elementary

Patti Nelson called meeting to order.  Volunteer signup sheet, officer’s duties description, and agendas were passed out.  43 People were in attendance.

Since this was the first meeting there were no minutes or treasurer’s report to read.

Colleen Branson from the Mannford Public Library spoke about the Child Identifications Program.  It will be held on February 16th from 9am-2pm.  It will be held at the Community Center next to the Library.

Elections for officers will be held at the next meeting in February, due to such short notice for our first meeting and officers needing to be cleared through the school since they will be in the schools.

Five members volunteered to write up by laws for the club.  They will be presented at the next meeting for a vote of approval.

Wendy was nominated to be the Volunteer coordinator.  She will introduce herself at all the schools and find out when they need help and start calling the volunteers that signed up at the meetings and get them assignedEveryone who is going to be in the schools needs to stop by the Administrative office and fill out a background check.  You don’t have to do the background check to be a PTO member unless you are an officer and will be doing things at the school during school hours.

Patti has volunteered to be acting president until elections are held.

Being incorporated was discussed to protect our board members.  A parent has offered to help with that she has experience in the area.

It was voted that we will have our monthly meeting on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30.  Due to the large turnout for our first meeting we will need to find a larger room.  YEA

Mrs. Bolte has volunteered to come up with a design for name badges so the teachers and students will know we are PTO volunteers when we are in the school.  PTO t-shirt was suggested, Linda is checking on that and will have more info for us at the next meeting.

Charging dues for members was discussed. Kim made the motion we charge dues Wendy seconded. Motions was made by Marty and seconded by Kim to charge yearly dues of $10 for a single membership and $15 for a couple.  No dues were taken tonight due to no bank account being set up yet and no treasurer.

Mrs. Parker the upper Elementary Principal talked about the Bingo Fundraiser April 6.  She will get a list of who has already donated and who has donated in past to contact so we can help get donations for the event.  We will set up a PTO table to sign up new members.

Setting up a PTO website and newsletter was discussed.  A “Kiss the Goat” contest to get more PTO members was suggested. The classroom that can get the most parents, etc to sign up for PTO gets to have their teacher kiss a goat.  We have a goat volunteered.

Door prizes were won by #5 and #23.  (Sorry I forgot to get names)  To raise money in the future door prizes will be done in raffle form.  Under $50 value it will be .50 cents for a chance and if over $50 value it will be $1 for a chance.  Entering raffle is optional.  Next month’s door prize is a $100 QT gas card.

Open forum to discuss ideas for fundraiser took up last 10 minutes of meeting.

An email has been set up if you would like to send suggestions and ideas to be brought up at the next meeting.  MannfordPTO@gmail.com

Meeting was adjourned at 7:30

As this was our first meeting and no one took notes, some things are probably missing. We will do better next time.
